Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the BNP, has denounced what he describes as a clear conspiracy aimed at obstructing Bangladesh’s democratic transition. Speaking virtually from London at a BNP rally in Naya Paltan on Wednesday afternoon, Tarique, the son of party chief Khaleda Zia, called for robust resistance against those creating instability in the country.

Tarique highlighted what he perceives as an increasing conspiracy to destabilize the democratic process, asserting that the current climate of instability is evidence of these disruptive efforts. He emphasized the need for effective measures to protect democracy and national security.

“The conspiracy to disrupt the ongoing democratic transition process is becoming increasingly evident with the creation of instability across the country,” he said.

He urged the administration to uphold law and order firmly and ensure the security of all citizens, stressing that no one should feel threatened based on their religion or ethnicity. Tarique also called on all political parties, including the BNP, to stand united against chaos and instability.

Criticizing the negative portrayal of the police as “enemies of the people,” Tarique argued that in a democratic state, the police play a crucial role. He accused the administration of turning the police into adversaries to maintain power without elections.

“I believe that while a few elements within the police may be problematic,” he stated, “most officers and members are committed to their duties and the law.” He acknowledged that while there are issues within the police force, the majority adhere to service rules and laws.

Tarique warned that attempts to undermine police morale could facilitate efforts to destabilize the country and create insecurity among religious communities.
