Uttarakhand Nurse Raped and Murdered After Work

In a tragic incident in Uttarakhand, India, a nurse working at a private hospital was raped and murdered while on her way home after work. The crime has added to the growing outrage across the country, following the recent rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

According to NDTV, the nurse left her hospital on the evening of July 30 and was last seen on CCTV footage taking a rickshaw. However, she never made it to her rented home on Kashipur Road in Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh, where she lived with her 11-year-old daughter.

Her sister filed a missing person report the next day, but it wasn’t until eight days later, on August 8, that her body was discovered in a vacant lot in Dibdiba village, about one and a half kilometers from her home. The body has since been sent for post-mortem.

An investigation committee was promptly formed, and during the course of the investigation, a suspect named Dharmendra was arrested after police traced the location of the nurse’s stolen phone. Dharmendra, a day laborer from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in Rajasthan on Wednesday.

According to police reports, an intoxicated Dharmendra had followed the nurse before ambushing her near her apartment building. He dragged her into nearby bushes, where he raped and strangled her with her veil. Dharmendra also allegedly stole Rs 3,000 from the nurse’s handbag after the murder.

Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC from Udham Singh Nagar confirmed these details, stating that the case is still under investigation as they continue to pursue justice for the victim.
