Interim government to swear in on Thursday, says army chief Gen Waker

Army chief Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman has said the interim government is expected to be sworn in around 8pm on Thursday.

“Despite the limited time, efforts are being made to arrange the swearing-in ceremony for Thursday,” he said at a press conference at the Army Headquarters around 5:45pm on Wednesday.

He also said Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus will lead the interim government as its chief advisor, with 15 advisors.

He added that Yunus has expressed eagerness to get down to the job.

Yunus has already discussed his plans with President Mohammed Shahabuddin and is expected to oversee the upcoming elections.

Currently in Paris, Yunus is scheduled to arrive at Dhaka’s Shahjalal Airport on Thursday at 2:10pm via an Emirates flight from Dubai.
