Nilphamari Correspondent:

Local students and residents formed a human chain in Nilphamari to demand the resignation of the principal and headmaster of four educational institutions in the district. Around a hundred participants, including students and locals, took part in the protest.

The demonstration took place on Sunday morning (August 25), as students protested against alleged corruption and irregularities at Panchpukur School and College in Nilphamari Sadar and Babrijhar Bimukhi High School, also located in Nilphamari.

Speakers at the protest accused Md. Ashrafuzzaman, the principal of Panchpukur School and College, of engaging in irregularities and embezzling funds under the influence of local political connections. Students called for his immediate resignation, citing financial corruption and mismanagement. They vowed to intensify their protest if their demands were not met.

Similarly, Md. Zahir Uddin Ahmed, the headmaster of Babrijhar Bimukhi High School, was accused of abusing his authority and misappropriating school funds. Students demanded his resignation, emphasizing that his actions had negatively impacted the school. Several students, including Redwan Islam, Ujjwal Islam, Sumna Akhtar, Russell Sheikh, Kawsar Islam, Sathi Akhtar, and Sumaiya Akhtar, spoke on behalf of their peers during the protest.

In Kishoreganj Upazila of Nilphamari, another protest took place at Kalikapur School and College. Students accused Principal Reodanur Rahman of corruption and misusing his position, also under the influence of local political forces. When the principal failed to attend school, students locked his office and demanded his resignation.

On the same day, students of North Durakuti High School in the upazila formed a human chain at the Upazila Parishad premises, calling for the resignation of their headmaster, Dulal Rahman. Protesters accused Dulal Rahman of embezzling school funds and exploiting his position to manipulate appointments. They also claimed that his misconduct had led to a decline in student enrollment. Protesters held banners and placards while raising slogans demanding his resignation.

The protests reflect growing frustration among students and local residents over the alleged corruption and mismanagement in these educational institutions. If their demands are not addressed, students have warned of escalating their actions.
