TIB Raises Alarm Over Administrative Occupations and Authoritarian Risks

21

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has raised significant concerns regarding the recent changes in government, highlighting a troubling trend of occupations across various sectors, including the administration. According to TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman, these developments pose a risk of establishing an authoritarian regime.

Iftekharuzzaman expressed concern over the increase in irregularities and corruption at both political and administrative levels. He stressed the need for time to allow the new government to stabilize while warning of potential threats to democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.

He noted that political actors seeking advantage are seizing trusts and lands, creating instability in the administration and political arenas. This environment, he warned, hinders the establishment of equal rights and could lead to anarchy within the judicial system.

TIB has proposed 55 reforms aimed at safeguarding democratic practices, upholding the rule of law, and protecting human rights. The organization urges that these reforms be implemented to support the interim government during this transitional period.
